About the event
'It Was The Loom That Broke My Heart' is a multimedia installation created by visual artist Marie-Claire Lacey and sonic artist Adam Stearns. This collaborative exhibition responds to the sociohistorical significance of the site, originally used as a weaving and dyeworks. Adam and Marie create a series of audiovisual artworks informed by research into the building, its heritage and the effects of industrialisation on traditional weaving processes.
Marie-Claire is a multimedia artist interested in intersections between the personal, social and political, and uses art to uncover hidden experiences; whether personal, private worlds, or stories silenced by society. Marie values creativity as a tool for connection, transformation, and collective healing.
Adam is a sonic artist and composer. His work encompasses fixed media, live performance, installation, and moving image. Inspired by communities, heritage, identity, queerness, and socio-cultural phenomena, Adam’s work often tells a story of a place, person, or community.
Opening Times: 8th-17th of September 2023 (open Sat-Sun between 11am and 5pm / Mon-Fri between 12-3pm).
Supported through the Jerwood New Work Fund and Creative Scotland’s Open Fund.
