About the event

"Eastern Ground," celebrates and explores the rich architectural and cultural heritage of Glasgow's East End, and is set to open its doors on Friday 3rd November. Led by designer Alis Le May, the nine-month-long community engaged project culminates in an immersive exhibition at our French Street space, featuring garments, photographs, and wall hangings, each inspired by the architecture and stories from local residents.

Garments have been designed to reflect the unique characters of six historic buildings in Glasgow's East End: St Anne's RC Church, Dennistoun 1933, Templeton Carpet Factory, Calton 1892, Shettleston Hall (Also known as 'Wellshot Halls'), Shettleston 1925m, Tollcross Winter Gardens, Tollcross 1848, Olympia Cinema, Bridgeton 1911, Barrowfield Weaving Mill, Dalmarnock 1889

An accompanying digital version will feature a walking map of all six historic sites and recorded oral histories, offering a broader context to the exhibition.

The exhibition will include garments created by Alis Le May, photographs by Gemma Dagger, sculptures by Agnes Jones, textiles by Julia Billings, and 9 wall-hangings by students from high schools throughout the East End.

The exhibition will be open every day 10am - 5pm from Friday 3rd - Sunday 12th November.

The venue is wheelchair accessible.
